Brown Ideye hangs boots after 28 caps, 6 goals for Nigeria

Former Super Eagles striker, Brown Ideye, has officially announced his retirement from professional football, bringing an end to a career that spanned over a decade across multiple continents.

The 36-year-old confirmed his decision on Tuesday in a heartfelt post shared on his official X handle.

“After much thought and consideration with mixed emotions, I’ve decided to retire from professional football. I will first like to thank God for the talent and the long career I’ve enjoyed. I thank my family and friends for their unwavering love, support and understanding till this day,” Ideye wrote.

Ideye’s career saw him feature for clubs in England, Greece, China, Ukraine and Spain, gaining recognition for his work ethic and clinical finishing. He also earned 28 international caps, scoring six goals for Nigeria.

A highlight of his career came in 2013, when he was part of the Nigerian squad that lifted the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, under the late coach Stephen Keshi.

Though stepping away from active play, Ideye assured fans that football would continue to remain part of his life as he transitions into the next chapter of his journey.
