The Sokoto State Government has introduced monthly allowances for Imams, their deputies, and Mu’azzins, along with new cash allocations to Jumu’at Mosques across the state
Governor Ahmed Aliyu announced the measures on Saturday during the graduation of 111 Qur’an memorisers at the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation in Sokoto.
He said mosques would now receive between ₦300,000 and ₦500,000 monthly, depending on category, while clerics would also be supported to strengthen Islamic propagation and Qur’anic memorisation among children.
Mr Aliyu described religious affairs as a priority in his administration’s “Nine-point Smart Agenda,” second only to security.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, praised the initiative, while former governor Aliyu Wamakko and Senator Abdulaziz Yari also pledged support, with Mr Yari donating ₦22 million and food items.
Each of the 111 graduands received ₦20,000 and clothing materials from the state government.
