Oyedepo’s Kids Used Phones Abroad, Why Restrict Covenant Students at Home? — Daniel Regha Challenges Bishop Oyedepo

Daniel Regha has fired shots at Covenant University over its strict ban on phones, SIM cards, and tablets, questioning why Bishop Oyedepo’s children reportedly studied freely in the U.S. with no such restrictions.

The university, known for its zero-tolerance discipline, prohibits SIM-enabled devices and warns violators of suspension.

Regha’s post has sparked debate online, with many calling the policy a double standard and outdated in today’s tech-driven academic world.

“Covenant University has banned students from owning phones, but Bishop Oyedepo’s children reportedly had their higher education in the USA, and no phones were banned there. OK,” he wrote.

Covenant University, located in Ota, Ogun State, has long maintained strict disciplinary measures against students. In 2014, the school issued a notice prohibiting the possession of SIM cards, phone chargers, SIM-enabled tablets such as iPads, Samsung and Tecno brands, warning that defaulters would face suspension.

The institution is widely recognised for its zero-tolerance stance on perceived misconduct, a culture critics argue is excessive for a tertiary institution.

Regha’s comments have reignited debate on whether such policies infringe on students’ rights, especially as mobile technology is now central to education, research, and communication.
