Dalung Questions Nigeria’s World Cup Fate After 1-1 Draw vs South Africa

Former Minister of Sport Dalung has expressed concern over Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup following a 1-1 draw away to South Africa in Bloemfontein.

He asked pointedly: “Shey we are out again, abi? When was the last time Nigeria played at the World Cup?”

Reflecting on his tenure, Dalung added: “Since I left office, I can’t remember any. And this is not about any of my achievements, because the naysayers claim I didn’t even achieve anything. So I ask again, when was the last time Nigeria got to the World Cup?”

The Super Eagles’ failure to win has left Nigeria’s World Cup hopes hanging by a thread. With two matches remaining in Group C, Nigeria have 11 points, while Benin Republic, who have played their match, sit second with 14 points and a game in hand. South Africa top the group with 17 points.
