Nigerian health authorities have confirmed that there is no outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease in the capital city of Abuja.

Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary of Health and Human Services for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), announced on Friday that laboratory results showed a suspected case tested negative for both Ebola and Marburg viruses.

“This has been confirmed and verified. There is no Ebola in Abuja,” Fasawe said during a press briefing.

She credited the administration of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for strengthening the surveillance and emergency response system in the territory.

The suspected patient, who arrived from Rwanda, had immediately sought medical care after developing a fever.

According to officials, the hospital followed due protocol by notifying authorities and isolating the case.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) confirmed that further tests are ongoing for other viral hemorrhagic fevers including Lassa fever and dengue fever.

Officials called on residents to adopt better health-seeking behaviour, stressing that “not every fever is malaria” and urging citizens to report unusual symptoms promptly.
