With Obi on Board, Any Party Instantly Gets 40% of Votes — PDP Chieftain

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dan Ulasi, has declared that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, holds the magic key to at least 40 per cent of Nigeria’s votes in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Arise Television on Friday, Ulasi said he would be “very happy” if Obi returns to the PDP, insisting that Obi’s credibility and the momentum of the Obidient Movement remain a force no party can ignore.

“Any party that has him today will know they already have more than 30 to 40 per cent of the election because he has tremendous support across this country,” Ulasi stated.

The PDP stalwart, however, noted that Obi’s political future is still uncertain, pointing out that while Obi contested under Labour in 2023, he has also appeared at the launch of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

On zoning, Ulasi stressed fairness, calling for the PDP presidential ticket to be micro-zoned to the South-East, which he argued remains the only region yet to produce a Nigerian president.

He further disclosed that the party is actively reorganising itself ahead of 2027, with several governors now backing efforts to rebuild its structure.

Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, was Atiku Abubakar’s running mate under the PDP in 2019 before defecting to Labour in 2022.

His 2023 campaign, powered by the Obidient Movement, upended the dominance of the APC and PDP, securing him a strong third-place finish.
