The State of Georgia, United States, has conferred honorary citizenship on former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi.
Obi revealed the honour in a statement shared on Friday via X, following his participation in the Black Congressional Week events in Washington, D.C.
The day’s activities began with the Congressional Black Caucus Week Reception at the U.S. Senate Kennedy Caucus Room, hosted by Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock. l
Obi disclosed that Senator Warnock encouraged him to share insights on African democracy and development.
The former governor of Anambra State also engaged with Georgia Power, the state’s largest independent power company, where he held strategic discussions with CEO Kim Clark on energy generation and distribution.
In addition, Obi attended the One Voice Africa forum, a platform advocating for the dignity of Black immigrants.
He urged participants to take greater interest in championing good governance across Africa, stressing that the continent’s potential is boundless if guided by visionary and responsible leadership.
He described the conferment of honorary citizenship as the “highlight of the day,” noting that the engagements reinforced his lifelong commitment to building a new Nigeria anchored on accountability and progress.
“For me, the day’s events were about learning, serving, and remaining committed to building a new Nigeria that is truly possible,” Obi stated.
