The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested Bishop Ndibueze Okorie Onyeagoziri, General Overseer of Champion the Truth Cathedral, for allegedly taking advantage of a 22-year-old lady living with sickle cell under the guise of performing a “spiritual transformation” to change her genotype from SS to AA.

According to The Punch, the bishop was known for allegedly taking undue advantage of female members of his congregation, often promising divine healing or breakthroughs.

Police spokesperson DSP Joshua Ukandu confirmed that the bishop is currently in custody at the state headquarters in Abakaliki, pending further investigation.

“Yes, the bishop is with us here at the police headquarters. The case is under investigation,” Ukandu stated.

In a video circulating online, the young woman narrated how her family agreed that she should live in the church for “divine healing” due to her health condition. However, the situation reportedly turned unpleasant.

She alleged that the cleric told her a seven-day special session with him would change her genotype. Out of desperation, she agreed — but her condition worsened afterward.

“He said a seven-day encounter was all I needed for my genotype to change from SS to AA. But after that, my health became worse,” she recounted.

She later returned home and claimed the bishop threatened to share their private pictures online if she left — a threat she said was later carried out.

Meanwhile, Bishop Onyeagoziri has denied all allegations, claiming his phone was stolen and that those behind the act used Artificial Intelligence to create fake photos.

“My phone was stolen earlier this month. When those who took it couldn’t extort me, they used technology to create false images,” he said.
