Nigeria’s Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, has resigned from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet following controversies surrounding his academic qualifications and allegations of certificate forgery.

Nnaji, appointed in August 2023, announced his resignation in a letter to the President on Tuesday, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the resignation in a statement, noting that President Tinubu had accepted Nnaji’s decision and wished him success in his future endeavours.

Nnaji explained that he had become a target of political blackmail, insisting that the allegations were driven by opponents seeking to damage his reputation.

His resignation comes after the Federal High Court in Enugu dismissed his attempt to stop the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, from releasing his academic records — a ruling that intensified public scrutiny.
