Former Arsenal and Brazil midfield enforcer, Gilberto Silva, has hailed Chelsea’s teenage sensation, Willian Estevão, predicting that the 18-year-old could soon rise to the pinnacle of world football.

Estevão, affectionately dubbed “Messinho” in Brazil for his dazzling style reminiscent of Lionel Messi, joined Chelsea this summer for £29 million from Palmeiras, after the Blues beat heavyweights Real Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal, and Manchester United to his signature.

Speaking to Perform, Gilberto Silva revealed he has tracked the youngster’s progress from childhood, praising his rapid development and flair.

“I’ve known him since he was a very little kid back in Belo Horizonte, with Cruzeiro,” Silva said.

“Later on, he moved to Palmeiras and he stepped up so fast — developing his skills, his ability, his strength.”

The Brazil legend added,

“He’s got the talent. I’m sure he’s going to be a top, top player — not only for Chelsea, but in the world.”

Willian Estevão, who recently turned 18, is already turning heads on the international stage.

He scored twice in Brazil’s 5-0 thrashing of South Korea in a friendly on Friday — a performance that boosted his hopes of cementing a place in Brazil’s squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Silva concluded by recalling Estevão’s nickname growing up:

“He was above everyone in Belo Horizonte. People called him ‘Messinho,’ but I don’t want to compare him. He’ll be great in his own right.”

The Stamford Bridge faithful may just have a new Brazilian jewel  and perhaps, the next global superstar in the making.
