Peter Obi: I Can Transform Nigeria Positively in Four Years

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, expressing confidence in his ability to change Nigeria’s trajectory within four years if elected.

Speaking during a Channels TV broadcast, the ex-Anambra governor said leadership selection should be based on competence and capacity. Obi noted that while he remains a Labour Party member, he supports broader opposition collaboration through the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to “rescue the country from bad leadership.”

He also decried the nation’s poverty rate, lamenting that 139 million Nigerians live in poverty, and criticised political leaders for focusing more on power than on governance.

Reacting to recent defections by Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah and Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri to the APC, Obi described the moves as personal political choices, insisting democracy should be guided by persuasion, not coercion.
