The Rivers State Executive Council on Thursday announced the termination of a ₦134 billion contract earlier awarded to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) for the reconstruction of the State Secretariat complex in Port Harcourt.

The contract, which was approved during the emergency administration of Vice Admiral Ikot Ete Ibas (retd), was revoked following a review by the Council led by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

According to the resolution, the state government has directed CCECC to refund the ₦20 billion mobilisation fund previously released for the project.

The Council also approved the formation of a six-member committee, chaired by Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Odu, to assess and recommend appropriate sites for new Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the state to support external examinations.

In addition, the flood control committee, also headed by Odu, was instructed to implement urgent measures to reduce flooding in affected communities. The government urged residents to cooperate by avoiding the obstruction of drainage channels.

The Fubara administration said the decision was part of efforts to promote transparency, accountability, and efficient project execution within the state.
