“Only a Northern Muslim Can Defeat Tinubu in 2027” — Dele Momodu Declares

Publisher of Ovation Magazine and former presidential candidate, Dele Momodu, has said that the only realistic way for the opposition to defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election is to zone the presidency to the Muslim North and the vice presidency to the Christian South.

Momodu stated this during an interview on Arise Television on Friday, monitored by Daily Post Nigeria, where he analysed Nigeria’s current political dynamics and Tinubu’s growing dominance across southern states.

According to the media mogul, President Tinubu has already “locked down the South,” making it almost impossible for any southern candidate—whether Peter Obi or Goodluck Jonathan—to compete effectively against him in 2027.

> “It’s obvious that the ruling government has turned this into an ethnic battle. It will be a battle of North versus South,” Momodu said. “That is why you see both PDP and APC power brokers insisting that a candidate must come from the South. They know Tinubu already controls the South.”

He explained that the President’s vast financial influence and control over state structures have positioned him as a formidable incumbent, making a strategic northern alliance the only way to “tilt the balance” in favour of the opposition.

Momodu, however, dismissed claims that such zoning would violate the principle of fairness or power rotation, noting that the Nigerian Constitution does not enshrine an eight-year rotational arrangement between North and South.

“Politics is about strategy, not emotion. If the opposition wants to win, it must think beyond sentiments,” he added.
