A Danish humanitarian, Anja Ringgren Loven, has melted hearts online after sharing touching transformation photos of a young Akwa Ibom girl once accused of witchcraft, beaten, and abandoned on the streets.
The girl, identified as Christiana, was rescued earlier this year by Loven’s foundation and has since undergone months of intensive medical treatment and psychological rehabilitation.
In a heartfelt post on Facebook, Loven narrated how Christiana was ostracised by her community after being labelled a witch a stigma that forced her to endure hunger, violence, and rejection on the streets.
“Christiana was rescued earlier this year. She had to get medical support and therapy to recover from the trauma of being rejected, beaten, and abused,” Loven wrote.
The Danish aid worker, who has dedicated over a decade to rescuing and rehabilitating children accused of witchcraft in Nigeria’s Niger Delta region, revealed that Christiana has now regained her strength and confidence.
“Street life is brutal, and not many survive. After eight months of intense therapy and medical treatment, Christiana is finally strong enough and started school this week!” she added.
Loven’s post, which included before-and-after photos of Christiana’s remarkable recovery, has since gone viral — drawing emotional reactions and praise for her foundation’s efforts in giving hope to abandoned children.
