Here’s the full news The Presidency has claimed that food prices across Nigeria have dropped sharply following the economic and agricultural reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, disclosed this in a statement on Friday titled “Nationwide Food Price Drop  A Testament to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Economic Impact.”

According to Dare, the reforms implemented by the Tinubu-led government have begun to yield positive results, leading to what he described as a “significant reduction” in the prices of major food items across the country between February and September 2025.

He said data from the Presidency showed that the price of a big bag of dry onions, which sold for ₦202,500 in February, now sells for ₦25,000, while a 50kg bag of local rice has dropped from ₦95,000 to ₦40,000. Imported rice reportedly now sells for ₦70,000, down from ₦106,000 earlier in the year.

Other staples also recorded notable declines:

Maize (100kg): ₦90,000 → ₦30,000

Brown beans (100kg): ₦210,000 → ₦50,000

Tomatoes (big basket): ₦130,000 → ₦25,000

Palm oil (25 litres): ₦35,000 → ₦28,000

Yam (medium tuber): ₦4,125 → ₦3,600

The Presidency attributed the drop to improved harvests, enhanced logistics, and government-backed support for local farmers.

“The fall in prices reflects better harvests, improved logistics, and greater support for local farmers,” the statement said.
“The reforms under President Tinubu are restoring stability, boosting local productivity, and improving citizens’ purchasing power.”

The statement further noted that staple foods have recorded between 45% and 52% price reductions nationwide, adding that the trend demonstrates the effectiveness of Tinubu’s economic direction.

“The drop in food prices is more than just a market adjustment,” Dare added. “It is proof that the administration’s economic vision is yielding measurable results and placing Nigeria on a sustainable path to growth and prosperity.”

However, the Presidency’s claims have generated mixed reactions among Nigerians, especially on social media, where many citizens questioned the accuracy of the figures, citing high prices in local markets.
