The son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, has been officially confirmed as the Chairman of Agege Local Government, following the resignation of Tunde Azeez due to health challenges.

Azeez, who had been on medical leave since August, formally stepped down on Wednesday. His resignation letter was read by the Leader of the House, Adeshina Haruna, during plenary at the Agege Council Chamber, after which lawmakers unanimously endorsed Abdul-Ganiyu as substantive chairman.

Before his confirmation, Obasa’s son had been acting chairman, overseeing grassroots mobilisation and administrative activities. He was initially dropped from the race for chairmanship earlier in 2025 amid opposition concerns.

In his acceptance speech, Abdul-Ganiyu pledged to continue ongoing development projects and deepen partnerships with community stakeholders.

Council members commended Azeez for his service and wished him a full recovery, while urging for greater transparency and accountability in local governance.
