A lawyer, Stella Justice, has clarified that the army is not allowed to make arrests like the police.
She explained on Facebook that army officers can only detain someone if they are on a military base, during a state of emergency, or when officially assisting the police.
“Even then, they must hand over anyone detained to the police immediately. The army cannot investigate or decide your fate,” Stella wrote. She added that the military also cannot arrest police officers on a whim.
