The Rivers State Council of the Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU, has announced it will not participate in the nationwide strike slated to begin Friday, November 14, 2025.

The industrial action was declared by JOHESU’s national leadership over the Federal Government’s delayed implementation of the upgraded Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).

Speaking in an interview, the Rivers State Council Chairman, Otaraku Jonathan-Oye, said the state chapter opted out in recognition of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s proactive approval of several key welfare demands.

These include the adjusted Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for doctors, the updated CONHESS for other health workers, and the settlement of outstanding arrears.

Jonathan-Oye also confirmed that the Governor has approved the immediate implementation of residency grants and skipping allowances for doctors, alongside accoutrement allowances for other health workers.

He, however, appealed to the Governor to urgently address pending welfare matters such as the newly approved 65-year retirement age, payment of CONHESS review arrears, settlement of hazard allowance arrears, and salary harmonization for local government health workers.
