US Congressman Riley M. Moore has renewed his criticism of Nigeria’s handling of religious violence, claiming Christians are being targeted at a five-to-one rate compared to Muslims.
Moore’s statement, shared in a follow-up post on social media, referenced ongoing insecurity involving extremist groups and violent conflicts in northern and Middle Belt regions.
The lawmaker also threw his weight behind President Donald J. Trump’s October 31, 2025 decision to redesignate Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern (CPC)” over alleged religious freedom violations.
Nigeria’s government has dismissed the claims as misleading, insisting the violence stems from banditry, insurgency, and resource conflicts, not religious persecution.
The U.S. House Subcommittee on Africa will review the CPC redesignation at a public hearing on November 20, 2025.
