Liverpool’s Champions League hopes took a major hit on Wednesday night after suffering a shocking 4–1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven at Anfield — a result that deepened the club’s growing crisis.
The Dutch visitors stunned the home crowd with an early penalty after Virgil van Dijk was penalised for a handball in the box, allowing Ivan Perišić to put PSV ahead in the 6th minute. Though Dominik Szoboszlai briefly restored hope for Liverpool with a well-taken finish in the 16th minute, the Reds collapsed defensively in the second half.
Guus Til fired PSV back into the lead in the 56th minute, before Couhaib Driouech struck twice — in the 73rd and 90+1 minutes — to seal a memorable victory for the Eredivisie champions and hand Liverpool one of their heaviest home European defeats in recent years.
The result extends Liverpool’s poor run of form, following back-to-back 0–3 defeats in the Premier League. Pressure is now mounting on manager Arne Slot, whose side looked disorganized, fragile, and unable to respond once PSV took control.
With qualification now in doubt, Liverpool face an uphill battle to revive their European campaign — and restore confidence among their frustrated supporters.
