Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Saturday declared that he is the highest-ranked Christian in Nigeria’s government.

Speaking at the blessing and official opening of the Regina Coeli Parish Rectory in Uyo, he credited his political rise to “the special grace of God” and encouraged Nigerians to remain steadfast in faith and service.

“From obscurity to the number three citizen of this country, my journey is a testament to God’s favour,” Akpabio said. “God has specially prepared me for this role. Everyone can rise if they position themselves for His blessings.”

He urged contributions to church development, noting even small donations carry divine reward.

The Senate President also announced plans to open a new worship centre within the National Assembly complex in Abuja.

At the ceremony, Catholic Bishop of Uyo, Most Rev John Ayah, praised Akpabio and his wife for their support of the church and advised him to ignore detractors.

Akpabio’s remarks come amid renewed attention on Senate unity.

Two weeks ago, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele dismissed reports of plots to impeach Akpabio, calling them “unfounded” and a source of unnecessary tension.
