FCTA Cancels 1,095 Abuja Plots; Patience Jonathan, Ex-Governors Affected

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has cancelled 1,095 property titles in Abuja because the owners did not pay their required land charges.

A notice released on Monday said the owners were given a 14-day final deadline, which ended on November 25. Many of the cancelled plots are in Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, and Garki.

The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, approved the action. The affected owners failed to pay ground rent, C of O bills, penalty fees, or land-use conversion fees.

How many defaulted?

835 properties did not pay ground rent 260 properties did not pay violation or conversion fees All the cancelled plots now belong to the FCTA.

Prominent people affected

Former First Lady Patience Jonathan Former governors Ganduje, Donald Duke, Ayo Fayose, Sule Lamido, Iyiola Omisore Former Senate President David Mark

Other politicians like Uche Secondus, Ghali Na’Abba, Dambazau, Patrick Obahiagbon and others were also affected.

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Borno and Oyo State Governments Some federal ministries, agencies, and hotels

Background

FCTA has been warning owners to pay their outstanding charges. In May 2025, the government also revoked 4,794 properties, some owing for over 40 years.

FCTA says it may take full control of the revoked plots at any time.
