Former France international Bacary Sagna has predicted that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) will eliminate Liverpool from the UEFA Champions League despite the Reds’ 1-0 advantage from the first leg of their last-16 tie.
Sagna, a former Arsenal defender, also believes the Gunners still have a shot at the Premier League title, even though Liverpool currently lead the table by 13 points.
Speaking with talkSPORT, Sagna acknowledged that Arsenal’s current position may not meet fans’ expectations but insisted that the title race is not over.
“I believe they [Arsenal] are doing a great job. Some people were disappointed because they expected the team to be closer to Liverpool at this stage,” he said.
He added that Liverpool might struggle in upcoming fixtures, particularly after their Champions League clash with PSG, which could create an opportunity for Arsenal to close the gap.
“It’s going to be difficult to catch Liverpool, but when I look at the game they played against Paris Saint-Germain, I think they might have moments where they don’t perform well. Maybe this is where Arsenal can catch up and reduce the gap,” he explained.
Sagna also expressed confidence in PSG’s chances of progressing in the Champions League, which he believes could impact Liverpool’s morale.
“At the moment, Liverpool are flying because of their results, but you never know. Paris have a good chance of going through, and if that happens, the vibe around Liverpool could change,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid are the current Champions League holders, while Manchester City are the reigning Premier League champions.
