Nigeria has lost one of its distinguished statesmen, Hon. Chief Dubem Onyia, a former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
He passed away on Monday at the age of 73 after a brief illness.
The announcement was made in a statement on Tuesday by Engr. Emeka Onyia on behalf of the family, who described his passing as a profound loss.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Hon. Chief Dubem Onyia, a distinguished statesman and former Honourable Minister of State for Foreign Affairs,” the statement read.
Chief Onyia was said to have passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Known for his deep commitment to public service, he left a lasting impact on Nigeria’s foreign policy and diplomatic engagements during his tenure in office.
He served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs with dedication and was widely respected for his loyalty to the national interest and his integrity in public service.
His efforts contributed significantly to strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic relationships on the global stage.
Beyond his political career, Chief Onyia was a devoted husband, father, and mentor to many. He was revered for his wisdom, generosity, and unwavering dedication to the betterment of others.
“He was a trailblazer, a respected leader, and a man of great integrity,” the statement further noted.
Chief Dubem Onyia is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, extended family members, political associates, and a wide circle of friends.
