Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen, has charged his teammates to rise to the occasion and give their all as the team battles to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Nigeria’s qualification hopes hang in the balance following a poor run in Group C, where the three-time African champions have failed to secure a win in their opening four matches, managing just three points.
The Super Eagles are set to return to action next week, with a crucial away clash against Rwanda’s Amavubi at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on Friday. They will then host the Warriors of Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday, March 25.
Speaking ahead of the fixtures, Osimhen emphasized the need for the players to take full responsibility and show commitment if they are to qualify for the global tournament.
“It takes more than a coach to win football matches. Players must also be at their best, show commitment, and bear in mind that we can all fly together to reach our goal,” the Galatasaray striker told BBC Sports Africa.
The upcoming matches will also mark the first time most of the players meet newly appointed head coach, Eric Chelle. Osimhen, however, revealed he has already had discussions with the new gaffer
“I’ve spoken to him a couple of times and clearly understand the objectives he has set for himself and for the players,” he added.
