President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday welcomed Ghanaian President John Mahama to the State House in Abuja, marking Mahama’s first official visit to Nigeria since his inauguration on January 7, 2025.
The high-level diplomatic engagement is expected to focus on strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and Ghana, as well as addressing key regional issues within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Both leaders are anticipated to discuss trade, security cooperation, and strategies to enhance stability in West Africa.
Mahama’s visit follows Tinubu’s trip to Accra in December 2024, shortly after the Ghanaian leader won the presidential election.
During that visit, Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deepening ties with Ghana and supporting regional peace initiatives.
The meeting at the Presidential Villa underscores the importance of collaboration between the two West African nations, particularly in fostering economic development and tackling shared challenges such as security threats and economic integration.
