Russian President Vladimir Putin has confirmed that hostilities in Ukraine have resumed following a temporary Easter ceasefire, while reiterating Moscow’s willingness to consider peace initiatives.
Speaking on Monday, Putin said the Kremlin remains open to dialogue and expects the same level of commitment from Kyiv.
“We always have a positive attitude towards a truce, which is why we came up with such an initiative, especially during the bright Easter days,” Putin stated.
“We have always talked about this, that we have a positive attitude towards any peace initiatives. We hope that representatives of the Kyiv regime will feel the same way.”
Despite the temporary ceasefire, both Russia and Ukraine traded accusations of violations during the Easter period, each alleging multiple strikes against their territories.
The United States had earlier welcomed the Easter truce and expressed support for its possible extension.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also reiterated Ukraine’s openness to a 30-day pause in strikes on civilian infrastructure.
Putin noted that Russia would carefully examine any peace proposals, signaling a cautious but open approach to potential diplomatic resolutions.
