Xabi Alonso is reportedly lining up two key signings should he take over as manager of Real Madrid this summer.
The former Spain international, who has impressed as head coach of Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, is widely tipped to succeed Carlo Ancelotti at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Ancelotti is expected to vacate his role to assume responsibilities as the head coach of the Brazil national team.
According to Spanish outlet AS, Alonso has already identified two priority targets—Martín Zubimendi and Florian Wirtz—as part of his strategic squad overhaul at Madrid.
Zubimendi, currently playing for Real Sociedad, has a €60 million release clause and is considered a strong candidate to fill the void that will be left by veteran midfielder Toni Kroos. His composure and tactical awareness make him a suitable fit for Real’s midfield dynamics.
Wirtz, on the other hand, is a creative force at Leverkusen and has been instrumental in their recent success under Alonso.
The 21-year-old German international could command a fee in excess of €100 million, with Bayern Munich also closely monitoring his situation.
Madrid scouts are reportedly well-acquainted with both players, having tracked their development over the past few seasons.
