Tinubu Welcomes Tunde Onakoya, Commends Him for Transforming Lives Through Chess

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has warmly received Tunde Onakoya, the Nigerian chess maestro and Guinness World Record holder, at his residence in Lagos.

Tunde, who recently captured global attention by playing chess for an uninterrupted 60 hours in Times Square, New York, presented his official Guinness World Record plaque and a chess set to the president during the courtesy visit.

In a post shared via his official Instagram page, President Tinubu praised Onakoya’s extraordinary achievement and the inspiring impact of his initiative, Chess in Slums Africa.

“Tunde’s journey, from the streets of Lagos to uplifting underserved children and breaking world records, reflects the resilience and brilliance of Nigeria’s youth,” the president wrote.

He further commended Onakoya’s efforts in using chess as a transformative tool for education and empowerment in marginalized communities.

“Through chess, he opens minds and transforms lives in communities that are too often overlooked.

I would love to see how his work can be replicated nationwide, and I am looking forward to seeing him in Abuja to hear how the government can support him.”

President Tinubu concluded his message by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to youth development and inclusivity.

“Tunde Onakoya’s vision aligns with our administration’s: no child left behind, no talent wasted. Nigeria is proud of him, and we will walk with him.”

Onakoya responded with appreciation via social media, saying:
