In a tense and thunderous confrontation that rattled communities in northern Nigeria, troops of the 3 Brigade Nigerian Army clashed with heavily armed terrorists in Shanono Local Government Area, killing 19 attackers but tragically losing two soldiers and a local vigilante.
The fierce encounter, which erupted on November 1 across Ungwan Tudu, Ungwan Tsamiya, and Goron Dutse, came after military intelligence tracked a convoy of bandits moving on motorcycles through the area.
According to Captain Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, “Our troops engaged the assailants in a decisive battle, neutralising 19 of them and recovering multiple motorcycles and mobile phones.”
Despite the successful operation, the Army mourned the loss of its brave officers who, in the words of the statement, “paid the supreme sacrifice in defence of the nation.”
Commander of the 3 Brigade, Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur, reaffirmed the Army’s resolve to secure Kano and its environs, pledging intensified patrols and coordinated efforts with other security agencies to shield rural communities from repeated assaults.
“We will not relent until every corner of Kano is free from the grip of these armed criminals,” General Tukur vowed, calling on residents to maintain vigilance and swiftly report suspicious movements.
