President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded the names of 32 new ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation, marking the second batch of diplomatic appointments released within the week.
The development was disclosed in a statement on Saturday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement titled “Tinubu Nominates 32 Additional Ambassadors,” the President urged the Senate to “consider and confirm the nominees expeditiously.”
15 Career, 17 Non-Career Nominees
In two separate letters addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu proposed:
• 15 career ambassador–designates, and
• 17 non-career ambassador–designates.
The list includes four women among the career nominees and six women among the non-career nominees.
Prominent Figures on Nomination List
Several well-known political figures were named among the non-career nominees, including:
• Mahmud Yakubu, former INEC Chairman
• Reno Omokri, former presidential aide
• Femi Fani-Kayode, former Aviation Minister
• Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, former Enugu State Governor
• Erelu Adebayo, former Ekiti First Lady
• Otunba Femi Pedro, former Lagos Deputy Governor
• Victor Okezie Ikpeazu, former Abia Governor
• Senator Jimoh Ibrahim
• Professor Nora Ladi Daduut, former Plateau senator
• Fatima Florence Ajimobi, former Oyo First Lady
Others include former lawmakers, commissioners, and senior public officials from Katsina, Plateau, Anambra, Benue, and Osun States.

The career list spans several states, featuring nominees such as:
• Enebechi Monica Okwuchukwu (Abia)
• Yakubu Nyaku Danladi (Taraba)
• Miamuna Ibrahim Besto (Adamawa)

Strategic Postings Expected
According to the presidency, the envoys will be deployed to countries with “important and strategic relations” with Nigeria, including:
China, India, South Korea, Canada, Mexico, UAE, Qatar, South Africa, Kenya, and global bodies such as the United Nations, UNESCO, and the African Union.
Their specific missions will be announced after Senate confirmation.
Part of Wider Diplomatic Restructuring
Last week, Tinubu forwarded the first batch of nominees—Amb. Ayodele Oke, Amb. Amin Dalhatu, and Col. Kayode Are (rtd)—who may be posted to the UK, US, or France.
The presidency noted that more names will be released in phases as part of the administration’s broader diplomatic overhaul to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign engagements.
