Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher has praised Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega for his heroic performance against Tottenham Hotspur
Carragher spoke after Man City’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Tuesday.
Carragher believes Ortega’s late save to deny Heung-Min Son will “haunt” Arsenal fans in ten years.
Son’s shot was saved by Ortega, but Erling Haaland scored his second goal from the penalty spot to secure a crucial three points for the visitors.
Carragher stated on the Gary Neville Podcast after the game.
“[Tottenham] gave Man City more problems than I have probably seen anybody give them for a long time, in terms of the chances they created.
“Ortega, tonight alone, has won them the Premier League title,” Carragher said.
“Obviously a lot’s gone into that over the season but when you look at this game, if he doesn’t make those saves at 1-0, Arsenal will win the league. That’s how close it is.”
He added, “That Son chance is the moment Arsenal fans will remember in five, 10 years’ time.
“Even if they win the title in the next five years – and they’ve got a chance of doing that because they are a great team with a great manager – that chance will still haunt them.”
