The Lagos Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has ordered estate developer Suraj Oyewale, also known as Sir Jarus, to attend counseling and suspend his X account following domestic violence allegations..

This decision follows a request from Oyewale’s wife to withdraw the domestic violence case against her husband.

The controversy began last Friday when Sir Jarus publicly admitted on social media that he had beaten his wife “a couple of times” due to frustration, sparking widespread outrage.

The Lagos DSVA immediately called on the police to investigate Oyewale and bring charges against him. Consequently, he was invited by the police and charged to the Ogba Magistrate Court in Lagos on Thursday.

He faced two counts: assault against his spouse and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

Despite these charges, the case could not proceed because his wife denied the allegations against him.

Magistrate Owolabi, presiding over the case, decided to strike out the charges under specific conditions.

“I shall strike out these charges on the following conditions,” Magistrate Owolabi was quoted as saying. The conditions are:

1. The defendant shall suspend his X (Twitter) account for one month.

2. The defendant shall attend counseling sessions at the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, with the agency providing a report to the court.

The matter was adjourned to September 30, 2024, for compliance with the agency’s report.

The Lagos DSVA expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Police Command for their swift response and to everyone who brought the case to their attention.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to supporting survivors of domestic and sexual violence, ensuring their voices are heard, and advocating for justice.

“We use this medium to reiterate the Lagos State Government’s commitment to providing support and resources to survivors, ensuring their voices are heard, and advocating for justice in all cases of domestic and sexual violence,” the DSVA spokesperson said.

“If you or anyone you know is experiencing domestic or sexual violence, please do not hesitate to reach out to us on our toll-free line at 08000-333-333 or 0813-796-0048. We are here to help.”
