Supporters of the Nigerian Senate’s Chief Whip, Ali Ndume, gathered at the Unity Fountain in Abuja to express their dissatisfaction with his removal from office.
Protesters argued that Ndume’s removal was unjust, claiming it was due to his efforts to expose Nigerian hardships to President Bola Tinubu.
Ndume’s actions were deemed in the public’s best interest and should not have led to his ousting.
Mohammed Ibrahim Biu, the leader of the Southern Borno Development Association, addressed the crowd during a peaceful demonstration.
He stated, “We are here to register our displeasure over the action of the Senate concerning our Senator, Ali Ndume. He was removed from office as Senate Whip based on a complaint by the National Chairman of the APC for saying what others have been saying. Nothing he said was new.”
Biu praised President Tinubu for being a “listening leader” and noted that some of Ndume’s advice had already been implemented, such as the recent passing and approval of the new minimum wage bill.
He appealed to the Senate President and the Senate to reconsider their decision, emphasizing the importance of Ndume’s role as the sole representative of the Southern Borno Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
According to Biu, Ndume is a consistent and forthright leader who has always advocated for his constituents and disadvantaged Nigerians. He called for support rather than vilification for Ndume, praising him for standing by the truth.
