Chelsea’s £34.5m Move for Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion has  collapsed amid contract issues

The transfer was expected to see the 20-year-old sign a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge, with the option of an additional year.

However, the deal has collapsed due to significant issues in finalizing Omorodion’s contract.

The breakdown in negotiations has prompted Chelsea to shift their focus to other targets, with reports indicating that the club has already inquired about the availability of Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix.

This move signals Chelsea’s intent to strengthen their attacking options before the transfer window closes.

In June, Chelsea had previously submitted a €32.5 million (£27.4 million) plus add-ons offer for Omorodion, which was rejected by Atletico.

The forward, who spent last season on loan at Deportivo Alaves, made an impression by scoring nine goals and providing one assist, helping the team secure a 10th-place finish in La Liga.

Chelsea’s pursuit of Omorodion was part of a broader strategy to bolster their strike force, independent of ongoing negotiations with Napoli for Romelu Lukaku and Victor Osimhen.

The club’s interest in Omorodion underscored their desire to add young talent with potential, alongside more established names.

Omorodion, who was born to Nigerian parents, has pledged his international allegiance to Spain and has already been called up to represent the country at both under-19 and under-21 levels.

Despite the collapse of this transfer, his performances in La Liga have undoubtedly attracted attention from top clubs, and his future remains one to watch.
