Senator Barau Jibrin has pledged the fair distribution of 23,644 bags of rice in Kano State in an effort to alleviate the economic hardships faced by the citizens.
The senator, who also chairs the federal government palliatives committee for Kano State, committed to the issue during an interview with newsmen following a committee meeting.
Senator Jibrin emphasized that only residents who can present valid identification, such as a national identity card, driver’s license, voter’s card, or international passport, will be eligible to receive the palliatives.
This measure, he explained, is aimed at ensuring that the aid reaches the most vulnerable members of society.
“We just held a meeting in respect of a committee set up by Mr. President on how to distribute palliatives to the needy in Kano State,” Jibrin stated.
“We have taken our time to create a modality that ensures the palliatives will reach the people who truly need them.”
He further elaborated that the 23,644 bags of rice, each weighing 25 kilograms, will be distributed across all wards in the 44 local government areas of Kano State.
The distribution process will involve listing beneficiaries on a sheet of paper, verifying their identity through the aforementioned means, and providing them with a bag of rice.
The signed lists of beneficiaries will then be submitted to local government committees for onward transmission to the state committee.
The palliatives committee, according to Senator Jibrin, is composed of representatives from various political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as well as the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), and traditional and religious leaders.
