Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has mocked Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag after the club’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
Tottenham took an early lead through Brennan Johnson, who struck in the third minute, leaving United scrambling for a response.
The situation worsened for Erik ten Hag’s side when captain Bruno Fernandes was sent off with a straight red card in the 42nd minute, putting United at a disadvantage before halftime.
Spurs capitalized on the numerical superiority and sealed the victory with two more goals, one from Dejan Kulusevski just after the break and another from Dominic Solanke in the 77th minute, cementing the 3-0 scoreline and further compounding United’s woes.
In the aftermath, Pietersen took to Twitter with a sarcastic jab at Ten Hag, comparing him to legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
The former cricketer humorously claimed that Ten Hag was superior to Ferguson and urged the United board to keep faith in the Dutchman despite the mounting pressure.
“Please give Ten Hag time. He is a wonderful manager and has earned the right to another 2/3 seasons at least. He’s even better than Ferguson. PLEASE don’t sack him! PLEASE,” Pietersen tweeted, mockingly suggesting that the under-fire manager deserves more time to turn things around.
With this latest defeat, Manchester United’s struggles under Ten Hag continue to draw criticism as the club looks for answers in a season that has fallen short of expectations.
