Activist-cum-politician Aisha Yesufu has criticized the absence of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima from Nigeria, stating that their absence has gone unnoticed.
Yesufu made the remark on social media, ridiculing the presidency’s statement assuring Nigerians that there is no vacuum in governance despite the duo’s absence from the country.
President Tinubu is currently on a two-week leave in Europe, while Vice President Shettima left Nigeria on Wednesday for a two-day official engagement in Sweden.
The prolonged absence of the nation’s top two leaders has raised questions, prompting the presidency to issue a response.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to Tinubu, dismissed concerns over their absence, insisting that government operations remain unaffected.
“It is important to note that the president and vice president are fully engaged with the nation’s affairs, even while they are away. There is no leadership vacuum in the country,” Onanuga said.
However, Yesufu reacted sharply, posting on X (formerly Twitter): “There cannot be a vacuum in something that was never there. Nobody feels the absence of seat warmers.”
