Thespian and politician, Desmond Elliot has unequivocally denied allegations of being gay.

The controversy emanated from a blog post alleging a number of Nigerian celebrities, including actors and reality stars, identify as gay.

The particular post provoked heated debates on social media, with many named individuals keeping mute.

However, in an interview with TVC, Elliot dismissed the claims, describing them “irrelevant” and “baseless opinions”.

The actor enunciated his heterosexuality while stressing that individual freedom to “identify as they choose, as long as it’s within the law”.

“Why would I respond to allegations made against me when it did not reduce or increase my life?” he said.

“Secondly, it is an opinion that is being conceived. And I do not think it is necessary for me to come out and say it’s true or not true; as long as I’m affecting people positively, I’m good.

“If you feel you identify as something as long as it is within the law. People do not have to accept it, do you.

“So let me say right here, I am straight. You can never have anyone straighter than me.

“If some people want to enjoy themselves through publicity, that is left to them but I do not care really. Do you and enjoy yourself but do it within the law and with respect to your neighbours.”

In the same vein, a Nigerian fashion designer, Maureen Esisi, recently denied claims of being lesbian or bisexual.
