Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has reaffirmed his team’s ambitions to claim the Premier League’s top spot after a narrow 1-0 victory over Ipswich Town at the Emirates Stadium on Friday.
Kai Havertz’s seventh goal of the season proved decisive, securing all three points for the Gunners.
The win places Arsenal just six points behind league leaders Liverpool, who still have a game in hand.
Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, Arteta acknowledged the importance of the result but admitted his team’s performance could have been sharper.
“In the first half especially, we were super dominant and should have scored more chances,” Arteta said.
“The second half we didn’t start great and credit to them, they were tough to break down and are well organised.”
Despite challenges this season, including injuries and disciplinary setbacks, Arteta is optimistic about Arsenal’s prospects.
“Considering all the circumstances we had this season, the amount of times we had to play with 10 men, all the injuries that we had, it’s good to be in the position that we are. But it’s not where we want to be. We want to be first,” he stated.
