Former Presidential aide Reno Omokri has accused ex-Governor Nasir el-Rufai of attempting to destabilise Nigeria through divisive propaganda aimed at President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In a fiery statement shared on social media, Omokri alleged that el-Rufai is employing tactics previously used against former President Goodluck Jonathan, this time targeting Tinubu.
He claimed that el-Rufai’s recent criticisms of the administration were part of a calculated effort to create discord between Nigeria’s northern and southwestern regions.
Omokri dismissed el-Rufai’s allegations of a “Yorubanisation” of the government, describing them as baseless and misleading.
“Why does he only do this when we have a Southern President?” Omokri questioned.
“The lies he is peddling about President Tinubu’s Yorubanisation of the government are coordinated,” he added, drawing parallels to statements made by Nigerien junta leader Abdourahamane Tchiani.
The former aide called for evidence-based discussions, urging Nigerians to demand data-backed analyses rather than accept broad generalisations.
“If they cite a sector, they should give Nigerians a regional breakdown of everybody in that sector rather than making broad statements to paint a manipulative narrative,” he argued.
Omokri warned that such accusations could fracture the unity between the North and Southwest, further deepening divisions in the country.
“People like el-Rufai should think twice before destabilising Nigeria,” he stated, emphasising the need to preserve the bonds that hold the nation together.
