The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has unveiled a new initiative that allows candidates to resit their West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) papers much earlier than in previous years.
Under this plan, students can now retake failed or unsatisfactory subjects as early as January and February 2025.
This is a significant departure from the traditional system, which required candidates to wait for the next private exam cycle, often several months later.
John Kapi, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, confirmed the development during an interview on JoyNews’ AM Show in Ghana.
“Students who access their results now and realise they need to resit one or two papers have until 8th January to register online through our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés,” he stated.
The exams are scheduled to run from 24th January to 15th February 2025, giving candidates a quicker opportunity to improve their academic records.
Kapi also noted that students whose results were cancelled due to certain infractions are eligible to sit for the WASSCE PC1 exams, provided they are not currently banned for examination malpractice.
