Operatives of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested Kingsley Wanogho, a 42-year-old dismissed army sergeant and ex-convict, for allegedly abducting a young man in Ikeja and abandoning him on the Third Mainland Bridge.

The suspect is also accused of stealing his victim’s iPhone 13, which he later sold for N150,000 in Computer Village, Ikeja.

According to a statement issued by the RRS on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, the incident occurred on December 30, 2024, when Wanogho accused his victim, Solomon, of accidentally stumbling on him and causing the loss of a gold ring.

Wanogho, pretending to be an army officer, displayed a fake identification card and demanded that Solomon find the ring. He threatened to take him to the army barracks in Oshodi if the ring was not recovered.

The suspect then called for an accomplice on a motorcycle, and they transported the victim to the Third Mainland Bridge under the pretext of heading to an army barracks.

Once there, Wanogho reportedly robbed the victim of his iPhone 13 and cash before abandoning him on the bridge.

RRS operatives, who were alerted to the crime, eventually tracked down the suspect after he was spotted by one of his victims near Computer Village.

Upon his arrest, police recovered a Nigerian Army fez cap and a fake army identity card from Wanogho. Further investigations revealed that he had been arrested and imprisoned for a similar crime last year.

Wanogho has since been transferred to the Commissioner of Police’s Special Squad for further investigation.

The police are continuing their efforts to track down any other potential accomplices involved in the abduction and theft.
