The Ekiti State Amotekun Corps has arrested a 25-year-old man, Ojo Adewunmi, for allegedly attempting to rape a 19-year-old girl in Ilawe Ekiti.
In a statement released on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, the Ekiti Amotekun Head of Communications, Abiodun Adeleye, said the suspect was apprehended on Tuesday by operatives from the Ekiti South West Local Government Command.
According to the statement, the suspect allegedly locked the victim indoors with the intent to sexually assault her. However, his attempt was foiled when Amotekun operatives arrived at the scene.
“The Amotekun officers who arrested the suspect reported that the victim was locked indoors by the suspect to sexually assault her. However, his attempt was foiled upon the arrival of the operatives,” Adeleye stated.
The victim recounted her ordeal, explaining that she screamed for help, feeling helpless and terrified, until the operatives arrived to rescue her.
The suspect has since been handed over to the Ilawe Ekiti Police Division for further investigation and possible prosecution.
