A 60-year-old Kenyan woman, Connie Muuru, has expressed strong disapproval of a divorce party organized in Nairobi, stating that separation should not be celebrated.
The event, which took place on Saturday, January 25, 2025, was hosted by a local club as a gathering for divorcees to support each other and challenge the stigma surrounding failed marriages.
However, Ms. Muuru, who has been divorced three times, took to Facebook on Sunday to share her opposing views, emphasizing that she still believes in marriage despite her personal experiences.
“How can I celebrate divorce? What will I be teaching my children and generations to come as an elderly woman in society?” she wrote.
According to her, divorce is not an accomplishment, and she would never wish it on her children or grandchildren. She revealed that she kept trying because of her deep love for marriage and still believes in its sanctity.
“The fact that mine didn’t work doesn’t mean that no marriage is working or will work. I have children and grandchildren whom I believe will have lasting marriages and beautiful families,” she added.
She also highlighted the challenges of single life, stating that living alone comes with difficulties, especially when dealing with health issues and loneliness.
