A nursing mother in Owerri, Imo State, has come under fire from her community after being accused of killing her maid.

The incident reportedly occurred after the underage maid was allegedly punished for watching television with the woman’s children.

A disturbing video circulating online shows the nursing mother carrying her child while surrounded by an angry crowd outside a local hospital in Owerri.

The body of the maid, who was reportedly lifeless, lies on a hospital bed as the crowd accuses the woman of causing the child’s death.

In the video, voices of the crowd are heard condemning the woman.

One individual warns others not to physically attack her, saying, “Guy, no hit am, no hit am,” while another person suggests, “She’s going to NAPTIP straight.”

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) may be involved as the case unfolds.

According to journalist Nonsonkwa Ochi War, the incident occurred after the maid, who was reportedly underage, sat with the woman’s children to watch TV.

The punishment the maid received for the act allegedly led to her tragic death. Neighbours reportedly apprehended the woman after the incident and confronted her at the hospital.

As the crowd demanded answers, the nursing mother is seen attempting to explain herself, but her voice is drowned out by angry onlookers.

“Very wicked woman. Is that not someone’s child?” one voice asks, while others express their outrage at the alleged mistreatment of the maid. “See her body, see what she did to her,” the crowd says as they film the scene.

The woman’s narrative of events was interrupted by the crowd, but she claimed that after returning home from the market, she had begun preparing a meal when the incident occurred.

However, the crowd continued to call her names, labeling her a “wicked soul,” and expressing disgust at her actions.
