Aston Villa have officially confirmed the signing of former Real Madrid star Marco Asensio on loan from Paris Saint-Germain for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

The 29-year-old Spaniard becomes Villa’s fourth signing of the January transfer window, following the arrivals of Donyell Malen, Andres Garcia, and Marcus Rashford.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Asensio expressed his excitement about joining Villa and working under manager Unai Emery.

“Unai is a coach that I’ve known for a while. He’s had a great career, he’s a top coach, and he was key in my decision to come here because of his football philosophy,” Asensio said. “I love it—it suits me perfectly—and he’s a really important reason why I’m here right now.”

Asensio, a three-time UEFA Champions League winner with Real Madrid, has enjoyed a decorated career at both club and international levels. During his time in Madrid, he won multiple major trophies, including:

3 UEFA Champions League titles (2016/17, 2017/18, 2021/22), 3 La Liga titles, 3 UEFA Super Cups, 4 FIFA Club World Cups, 1 Copa del Rey

After leaving Madrid in the summer of 2023, Asensio joined PSG, where he made 47 appearances across one-and-a-half seasons and helped the club secure four major trophies, including the Ligue 1 title.

On the international stage, Asensio has been capped 38 times for Spain, representing his country at two FIFA World Cups.

He was also part of the squad that won the 2023 UEFA Nations League.
