Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has taken a swipe at his successor, Governor Uba Sani, for his public defense of President Bola Tinubu. El-Rufai
Rufai accused Sani of sycophancy, suggesting that the governor’s loyalty to Tinubu is influenced by financial incentives from the Federal Government.
Governor Sani, in a recent interview, dismissed El-Rufai’s allegations against Tinubu, asserting that the President has upheld democratic principles more than any of his predecessors.
“No president in Nigeria’s history has practiced democracy like President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Sani said, while also criticizing former government officials for seeking power without delivering meaningful results
Reacting via his X handle on Tuesday, February 4, El-Rufai claimed that Kaduna State had received over N150 billion in federal grants within the past 18 months, implying that this influenced Sani’s public stance.
“Every day I see this governor embarrassingly and sycophantically rambling, I used to wonder why.
However, confirming that Federal Government ‘reimbursements, interventions, and grants’ in excess of N150bn have been given selectively to Kaduna by Tinubu now explains everything,” El-Rufai wrote.
He further suggested that the people of Kaduna would ultimately decide Sani’s fate, stating, “By all means, defend Asiwaju for the conditional cash transfer. Asiwaju has earned it, coming from you. The people of Kaduna State will judge at the right time and place.”
