The Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) has sealed Arolat Petrol Station, located along Ayetoro Roundabout Road in Abeokuta, over allegations of underground water pollution.
The enforcement action follows a petition by the Foursquare Gospel Church, which is adjacent to the station.
According to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environmental Protection, Farouk Akintunde, the church alleged that its only water source, a well, had been contaminated with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
In response, OGEPA dispatched an enforcement team to seal the petrol station pending a thorough investigation. Akintunde stated that the agency would assess the extent of the contamination, the areas affected, and the current status of the underground water.
“As a responsive and responsible agency, the safety and wellbeing of our people are paramount and must not be compromised for any reason,” he emphasized.
The petrol station will remain sealed until the investigation is concluded and appropriate measures are taken.
