The Ekiti State Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, has said that the increasing calls for Governor Biodun Oyebanji to seek re-election in 2026 reflect the confidence of the people in his leadership.

Speaking at the ‘People’s Platform’ programme in Ado Ekiti on Saturday, Olatunbosun noted that residents from various political, social, and religious backgrounds have urged the governor to run again, citing his achievements over the past two years.

“Although the governor has not officially declared his intention for a second term, his inclusive governance and unprecedented infrastructural development have earned him overwhelming public support,” Olatunbosun stated.

He emphasized that Oyebanji’s performance has resonated with the people, adding, “The reward for good work is more work. Since he has been doing well in the last two years, Ekiti people believe he should continue till 2030.”

Olatunbosun attributed the administration’s successes to the governor’s deep understanding of Ekiti’s terrain, people, and needs, which he said has driven the state’s transformation.

Highlighting some of the government’s initiatives, he pointed to the redevelopment of the Atikankan slum in Ado Ekiti, which was once notorious for criminal activities.

According to him, the government took decisive action by reclaiming the area, compensating property owners, and initiating the process of converting it into a modern Central Business District.

He also noted the administration’s efforts in supporting traders through soft loans, shielding them from loan sharks and high-interest rates.

This initiative, he said, aims to boost commercial activities and economic growth in the state.

With the 2026 governorship election approaching, the growing public endorsements suggest that Oyebanji’s leadership will remain a focal point in Ekiti’s political landscape.
